The Cayuta facility is a hardwood sawmill with kilns and is located in the central New York region. This sawmill is ideally located to procure some of the finest hardwood timber from New York.and Pennsylvania.
Each log processed at the facility enters into an extensive process overseen by some of the most experienced people in the industry.
Log Preparation
- Pressure washing to remove excess dirt
- Debarking with a Valley 2 head hardwood debarker
- Scanning for metal via an MDI metal detector.
Sawing
The Cayuta sawmill utilizes a McDonough 6' band mill headrig and a 3 block Corley carriage.
The resaw at this facility is a McDonough 6' resaw.
Automated Edger & End Trimming
To produce lumber with clean square ends, the Cayuta mill uses an automated edger and end trimming technology.
All lumber is graded by National Hardwood Grading Rules, sorted by length, thickness, and grade.
Employees
The Cayuta sawmill employees some of the finest and most experienced hardwood lumber professionas in the industry. With over 115 total employees at the facility, approximately 32 hold positions in the sawmill.
Main Species
All species native to the region are sawn in the mill. The main species we saw include Ash, Cherry, Hard Maple, Red Oak, Soft Maple, and White Oak.
